Teaching your children to be physically is very important for their overall health and well-being. Being physically fit and healthy while they’re young plays a critical role in their development.
However, with the presence of the technological change in this generation, motivating your child to play outside with their friends can be a huge challenge. There are a lot of distractions, such as TV, movies, smartphones and video games, which easily eats up most of your child’s free time. Because of those things, they are left with not much time to dedicate on being physically active.
So, how do you encourage your child to allocate some of their time on more important things, such as exercise and physical activity?
Plan Activities they Find Enjoyable
Kids can be physically active even if they’re not naturally playful or energetic. The key is to discover the activities they find enjoyable. When kids find an activity that’s fun, they will keep on doing it over and over; get better at doing it, and will look forward to do it again. Likewise, if they’re pushed to do activities they are not passionate about, they will feel forced, will end up frustrated and will see physical activity as a chore rather than a fun activity.
By planning activities that you know your child will find enjoyable, you’re basically giving them a change not only to be physically fit and active, but also, you’re giving them a chance to have fun and enjoy their childhood. 🙂
Make TV Time a Physically Active Time
If your child’s obsession for TV shows is really uncontrollable, you can actually turn their TV time into something more productive. Your child doesn’t have to lie down the couch all the time as they watch their favorite TV programs. Encourage them to dance and sing as they watch their favorite cartoon characters such as Dora the Explorer, Mickey Mouse or Pikachu. 🙂
